Welcome
Toys are Fun
Everyone loves toys. They bring joy to kids and adults, and can develop new skills and interests.
But sometimes things go wrong when toys are not made or used properly, so common sense and caution are needed in buying and using safe toys. This site helps you with information and advice, even on your mobile device, and might even help you find the toy of your dreams, or find out how to make your own.Toys Are Safe, Aren’t They?
According to the British Toy and Hobby Association, quoted here with their kind permission, “Toy safety has a very good track record. As far as accident statistics are concerned, it is worth noting that only about 1.5% of all accidents involve toys, and even in these rare instances the toy is rarely the cause of the accident.”
So What Can Go Wrong?
Quite a lot, really.
Price pressure, long supply chains, rapid innovation and inadequate regulation and inspection can lead to letdowns and products that are not safe. Bad toy choices can also encourage inactivity, feeding obese and unadventurous children. So it’s still up to parents to be on the ball.
Has My Toy Been Recalled?
Toys may be recalled due to hazardous materials, poor design, poor construction, or newly discovered risks. Many recalled toys which are not safe are never returned or disposed of, and every year many new recalls are made, so it is a good, safe idea to stay informed. You can search here to see if your toy has been recalled, or read up on recalls to know what is still safe.
And why not consider some simple handmade toys? So often what truly gives life to a toy is the joy of a child’s imagination.
